I normally don’t write reviews, but of all the stays I’ve had this one was the furthest above expectations. The pictures don’t do this place justice. The house had everything and it really felt like home, everything was very intuitively placed so I didn’t have to search for things. The property was enormous and gave lots of privacy and was great for exploring with my young children. I couldn’t recommend more both for comfort and value. Hope to stay again!

This is an ideal setting to rest and relax. The property is such that you don't need to go anywhere and then again it's close enough to everything if you do. Jim and Pam are amazing hosts. Highly recommend meeting them at check-in. They are both thoughtful and very helpful. The level of cleanliness is probably the best we have experienced anywhere.
Mark - August 2022 (Vrbo)
Lovingly restored, the farmhouse was perhaps the cleanest VRBO property I have had the pleasure of staying in!
Lisa - January 2022 (Airbnb)
This place is amazing!!! Tucked away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to many attractions. Pictures dont begin to do this place justice. All of the special touches and amenities were great!!!! Hosts were very accommodating going above and beyond expectations! If you’re headed to this area…..this is the place to go! Thanks so much Pam & Jim…….we’ll definitely be coming back!
Rhonda - November 2021 (Airbnb)
Lovely stay. Charming, very clean home away from home! Definitely recommend and will book here again!
Cynthia - November 2021 (Vrbo)
The farmhouse is better than the photos! Lots of character and history. Very comfortable and well-equipped. Little farm the house is on is located in picturesque valley surrounded by mountains. Good hiking, scenic drives, lovely waterfalls in the area.
Ryan - September 2021 (Airbnb)
5-stars all the way, in all categories. The attention to detail was apparent at every turn from communication leading up to the stay, meeting us at check-in, and all the meticulously planned and provided amenities. The home was just as picturesque as the airbnb site photos show. Sitting on the screened porch drinking coffee and listening to the birds was a treat. We had a family of 6 and were very comfortable. Well-stocked kitchen, board games loads of towels, and extra blankets. Jim and Pam really thought of everything. We caught trout and grilled it fresh on the grill, which was clean and worked perfectly. We will be back! The boys are already looking forward to our next visit.
Samantha - August 2021 (Airbnb)
The OCF is amazing! Its truly close to activities for the family. We went horseback riding, checked out the waterfalls. One day it rained so we took the little ones to “the factory” which has arcade, mini gulf, bumper cars, etc. With the little ones the house was perfect! Open and spacious, yard was perfect for them to run around and play! Communication was great with the host! This is truly a place to stay and we cant wait to return for more adventures!

Nestled in Iotla Valley in western North Carolina only five (5) miles from the town of Franklin, The Old Campbell Farm beckons vacationers to relax in this beautifully restored vacation rental home built in the late 1800's, sit a spell, relax, catch some fireflies in the meadow, and relish time around the table with friends and family after enjoying the many attractions of western North Carolina.
A little bit of history: On November 14, 1867 Joseph Stephens Campbell (1839-1915) married Mary Elizabeth Bird (1851-1907). Around 1884, Joseph and Mary Elizabeth built the one-room log cabin on the land that we now call The Old Campbell Farm. Their two daughters were Margaret Elizabeth and Fannie Isabelle. Fannie and her husband Jess Tallent went on to raise 5 children in the one-room log cabin. Margaret Elizabeth married Nathan Andrew Allman, and they moved to Georgia. We have the pleasure of personally knowing many of Fannie's descendants. Although genealogy is not our forte, as time goes by, it is such fun to connect with descendants of Margaret Elizabeth!
Restoration and renovation officially began on January 4, 2012. Just as the seasons progressed from winter through spring and summer to autumn, improvements to both the interior and the exterior of the log cabin and farmhouse progressed. Surprises? Yes, there were several surprises along the way! But, thanks to the extensive knowledge, skill set, and hard work of our one-man crew and to Jim's woodworking talents, the transformations were amazing. The log cabin's rustic exterior now shelters a comfortable and well-appointed interior designed to suit the needs of modern travelers.
Whether you stay for a weekend, a week, or a month, The Old Campbell Farm can be your vacation home base while you explore everything from Dollywood in nearby Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to the Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina. There is never a shortage of things to do nearby! Our guests enjoy hiking in the Smokies, bicycle riding on marked trails and paved routes, motorcycle riding on challenging mountain roads, fishing, antiquing, horseback riding, zipping along a canopy tour, viewing waterfalls, golfing, canoeing, whitewater rafting, sightseeing, and strolling along the country lane or the woodlands road, just to mention a few possibilities. After dinner (or supper, as we say in the mountains) sit on the screened porch or take a walk in the meadow to catch the last light of day and perhaps a glimpse of a doe and her fawn.
With four-season truly easy access and fantastic views of the mountains surrounding Iotla Valley, The Old Campbell Farm provides impeccably clean and fresh furnishings, linens, kitchen, and more. Does your schedule include some vacation time? We welcome you to book your next vacation getaway with us!

The meadow at The Old Campbell Farm and two small fields at The Dock Barnard Farm produce hay each year for their cattle herd.
