Welcome to The Dock Barnard Farm
Marilyn - Oct 2018 (Book of Memories)
Jim and Pam...telling you that my sisters and myself enjoyed our stay at the Dock Barnard Farm is certainly an understatement. Not only is it beautiful..in a perfect location...you have thought of everything to make your guests stay a pure pleasure. Warm and inviting certainly apply. Sitting on that wonderful screened in porch with a cup of coffee will certainly start the day out right. I do know that we plan on returning as often as we can. You have changed my mind on what I want in a vacation rental. I don't think just a room in any hotel will ever measure up to what we had with you. See you soon!!

This place is AMAZING! The owners, Jim and Pam make you feel like family!!!! My husband and I took a 2 night trip for relaxation away from work, kids, and all of our busyness. We were NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!!! It is obvious that the owners have put their whole hearts into making this place the perfect getaway! It is rich in family history and Owners Jim & Pam were so sweet to give us a grand tour along with sharing a lot of the history of the family farmhouse.

Anyone would fall in love with this place! Very clean, organized, cozy, beautiful home in the mountain but so convenient to everything: Appalachian trail and other hiking trails, the water falls, rafting, and downtown Franklin. The view of the forest and mountain is very calm and peace, if you enjoy reading, their patio is the ideal place. Not to mention to have a barbecue at the backyard with fresh mountain air! Modern house appliances make your vacation even more enjoyable. Jim and Pam are great hosts, they meet us when we arrive, provided us a tour to the property and also suggestions for our trip. They also stopped by before we leave. We love them!! If you are looking for a perfect vacation home this should be it!

Beautiful and Peaceful Setting. We stayed at this little cottage for the weekend. This is the cutest and absolutely cleanest houses we have ever rented. The decor and appliance are all up to date. Kitchen well stocked and bathrooms also. The owners are so nice and helpful. Can't say enough about this place.

What a rich blessing to retreat to your wonderful home! We enjoyed the beauty and care that you put into each detail of this place. It allowed us to have a restful and enjoyable time with family. We had a wonderful time on the hikes you suggested - Williams Pulpit, Wayah Bald and Rufus Morgan. We visited the airport and made new friends with some wonderful people. Two of us went flying. On our last night we saw the most amazing shooting star. Thanks for being a part of making these memories possible.
(The Dock Barnard Farm debuted as a dedicated vacation rental property for the Total Solar Eclipse in August of 2017.)

Nestled in Iotla Valley in western North Carolina only five (5) miles from the town of Franklin, The Dock Barnard Farm beckons vacationers to relax in this beautifully restored vacation home, sit a spell, relax, catch some fireflies in the meadows, and relish time around the table with friends and family after enjoying the many attractions of western North Carolina.
The home, built in the 1890's by Dock Barnard (Jim's great-great-uncle) for his bride Ellen Winstead Barnard, sits on 90+ acres of private fields and woodlands. Dock had amassed significant wealth in the Cripple Creek, CO area while providing lumber for the gold and silver mines. The home he built for Ellen was quite fashionable for the times and incorporated some beautiful artisan craftsmanship. He passed away in 1941. Ellen continued to live in the home that Dock built until her death in the early 1960's. With the exception of some tenant families in the 1970's, the home fell into disuse and slowly became hidden by nature. Restoration began in September, 2014. Whenever possible, original wood was salvaged during the renovation process. Much of the exterior poplar siding is well over 100 years old! Both the poplar and chestnut accent walls inside the home were created from recovered original wood, as were the oak window sills throughout the home.
We listened to our guests and included their most often requested amenities where possible during the renovation process. Enjoy the en suite master bedroom with queen bed and walk-in shower, a traditional queen bedroom, a central bathroom with bathtub, and a full sofa sleeper with AirDream mattress, plus an open living/dining/kitchen floor plan perfect for spending time together. These are just the highlights!
Do you enjoy traveling with another couple? Do you enjoy sitting on a screened porch? Do you enjoy a walk in the woods? If you answered "Yes" to these questions, then The Dock Barnard Farm will be the perfect choice for your getaway!
Whether you stay for a weekend, a week, or a month, The Dock Barnard Farm can be your home base to explore everything from Dollywood in nearby Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to the Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina. There is never a shortage of things to do nearby! Our guests enjoy hiking in the Smokies, bicycle riding on marked trails and paved routes, motorcycle riding on challenging mountain roads, fishing, antiquing, horseback riding, zipping along a canopy tour, viewing waterfalls, golfing, canoeing, whitewater rafting, sightseeing, and strolling along the country lane or the woodlands road, just to mention a few possibilities. After dinner (or supper, as we say in the mountains) sit on the screened porch or take a walk along the woodland road to catch the last light of day and perhaps a glimpse of a doe and her fawn.
With four-season access and fantastic views of the mountains surrounding Iotla Valley, The Dock Barnard Farm provides impeccably clean and fresh furnishings, linens, kitchen, and more. Does your schedule include some vacation time? We welcome you to book your next vacation getaway with us!
About the owners:
Jim and Pam Rogers, owners and proprietors of both The Old Campbell Farm and The Dock Barnard Farm, are lifetime residents of Franklin. The Old Campbell Farm and The Dock Barnard Farm actually are part of their larger 350-acre working farm where they specialize in growing Angus cattle and timber. The meadow at The Old Campbell Farm and two small fields at The Dock Barnard Farm produce hay each year for their cattle herd.
